Santander is a busy regional capital and a popular holiday resort that offers award-winning sandy beaches, outstanding shopping facilities and town attractions and a range of restaurants and bars.
The main attractions in Santander are on the seafront; the Sardinero beach, gardens, casino and the royal Magdalena Palace. To the southwest of Santander is the Altamira Cave, which contains famous Stone Age paintings and drawings of bison and other animals, a must for anyone interested in the developement and history of man. Entrance to the original cave is restricted but the local authority on conservation reasons, but a replica of the cave has been built to accommodate the general public and is well worth a visit.
The port of Santander is on the Northern Coast of Spain, forming an entrance along with Bilbao to the mainland of Spain. The advantage of Santander ferry port is in the road network that runs out of it, enabling you to go very quickly to all destination in Spain and Portugal.
